The tricky thing about beginnings is that you want to get them just right. They’re what get the audience hooked; a bad beginning will get you nowhere. You need to set up the story, the adventure you’ll be taking the reader on, introducing them to all the characters and locations, setting the scene… but be careful not to make it too expositiony! (real literary presses make words up) We’re honestly getting stressed just thinking about how difficult it is to navigate that fine line. (impostor syndrome and mental illness are also real things)
When writing, beginnings are always what we struggle with the most. It’s tempting to skip ahead to the juicy, exciting bits, the bits that fill you with all sorts of emotions.
But the thing is, everything has to start somewhere. There can be no middle or ending without a beginning. Just get those words on the page; you’ll make it to the exciting stuff eventually and who knows what you might find en route if you take the long way round?
There is arguably A Lot going on in the world right now, and we want to bring a little spark of joy and creativity into the chaos. Of course art can be an escape, but it can also help and heal, and we want to focus on that.
All this to say hi, it’s our birthday today, we want to make great things and encourage creativity and highlight the voices that often get lost in the shadows, we’re just starting out but we hope you enjoy this adventure.
